Have you ever purchased a DVD/Blu Ray you already own by mistake?

I've yet to do this but I've not picked up a movie a couple of times because I wasn't 100% sure I didn't already own it.

    More than once.

Doesn't help matters that I often resort to Amazon's "you bought this on such and such a date." Which not only doesn't help if you bought it elsewhere, it rarely displays on solicits of new editions of the disk. Sadly I've often clicked an "out of print version" link on Amazon right after "first time" buying a new edition and finding I've just bought the same movie twice.

I should probably do a better job keeping my list synced on my mobile.

Never. I have a large collection, but I know what I own.

Nope, I know exactly what I own, and I can double check my collection on my cell if unsure.

A few times over the years but considering how big my collection is I'm surprised it hasn't happened more often.

No, I sure haven't. But I've done it a couple of times with vinyl records. Mostly because I go to a lot of record swap meets, and you're digging through stacks of records. Sometimes I forget what I have and grab a copy of something I already own.

The closest I came was a repacking of a DVD in which I already owned. The slipcover and artwork made it seem as though it was a new version, but the damn disc was identical. I can't remember which film it was...

Once, Devil Dog: The Hound of Hell (1978). The DVD somehow got lost in my collection. I couldn't find it no matter how hard I looked. One year later I bought it again, and shortly after I found the first copy again in my collection

I used to see my mom do this over and over with paperbacks, so I make an effort not to follow. She collected horror books, I collect discs. Sucks knowing the gene is there though.:nervous:

Re-issues have come close to getting me, but so far no doubles except knowing upgrades.

Never with a movie because I do have two databases that I'm pretty on top of updating. However, I have done it with a concert DVD. My musical DVD's aren't in these databases, but perhaps they should be!

I was guilty of this several times, although to be fair my collection is pretty large (over 3,500 discs). Buying an excellent program by the name of DVD Profiler instantly solved the problem and it has paid for itself many times over.

There has been quite a few times where I'll see and old movie from the 30-50's and won't pick it up as I'm sure it's included in one of my box sets and then I go home and find out I don't have it.Every time I look at The Devil Bat Blu Ray. I always think I must already have that but I don't. Then of course I'll hold off on buying and go through the same process the next time I come across it:)

No. As others have stated I also have an inventory of my collection which I update (and have a hard copy) on a regular basis. I also have a list of movies I want to get or need to research to see if I'm interested in. That is how I discovered this site years ago, it's been a huge help, not to mention introducing me to things I was unaware off.

Yes, I've done it a couple of times(in the past) Strangely only with TV seasons. I have tons of TV shows that I haven't even watched/opened yet. I tend to forget what I have. Say there are 7 seasons, I would forget if I have the first 4 or 5 years. You're in a store and they got a super sale going on & that's where I have made the mistake.

As far as movies, I've missed deals because I forget while in store(I know I have the movie) "But do I have that movie on DVD or Blu-ray?" So I just say forget it, and walk out of the store with nothing.

But never when I'm shopping online. And not since I got DVDProfiler, which was useless until last year, when I upgraded my phone. Try scrolling through thousands of entries on a weak browsing phone. It ain't happening.

Also, and I don't know about anybody else but I'm guilty of have "stacks" of movies that I haven't even opened yet. It's an ocd I guess in having it my collection, but not really having the need to watch it anytime soon. I actually have DVD's in my collection that are unopened, and have been in there for years. Zero urge to watch them. Only real chance if someone who is over my house wants to watch that particular movie, until then most people want to see the more popular titles.
