I'm leaning toward this release, but can't help but wonder how the 88 Films release in the UK will compare.

As much as I like 88 Films, something tells me the VG release will probably be superior as far as the transfer/encode goes. VG announced that they've done a 4K restoration from the negative.

I would probably place it somewhere in the middle (along with Final Exam and The Dorm That Dripped Blood). Enjoyable if you love the genre. It doesn't boast the elegant cinematographic compositions of, say, Madman, it doesn't have the star quality of Hell Night, Terror Train, Prom Night, nor the gory wizardry of The Prowler or The Burning, or the shock value of Sleepaway Camp, and barring Sleepaway Camp, it isn't as scary as any of those. But it is a core 80's slasher, and there are definitely many that are technically inferior.

Good point. But as I am a sucker for features, I may double-dip if the 88 Films version has a good enough amount of different, new and cool features.

That is just crazy! I adore GALAXY OF TERROR (it was called PLANET OF HORRORS in my hometown which I like better as a title). Speaking of Galaxy - why is always slighted as an ALIEN knock off? It's really just an R rated STAR TREK episode.

I just compared those shots with the current VHS-... I mean, DVD.

Wow. There is not way I cannot grab this DVD/BR. It looks beautiful!

And I never noticed that colorful purse before!

The images do look good. I'll likely give this another watch when this new transfer is released.

Nice - it's a definite purchase for me. That ending...always my favorite part of the flick.

I love all three and own all three. I have strange taste in horror movies, as some of my coworkers have told me after I tell them just a sampling of movies I own.

That pretty much sums up everybody that posts on this site. We're all a little bit weird when it comes to movies

    Amazon.ca lists a November 4th release now.

The Canadian and US Amazon's rarely ever have different release dates, but occasionally one is slower to update status than the other. Did VS push back this release?

If you click on slipback you can see the actual cover. The newly added red lines look horrible and cheap. Worst of all the title font and color have been changed, too. This is such a disappointment.

Why can't they just stick with the original artwork? That is what so many fans love about the Shout Factory releases. The poster artwork of a movie is closely connected to the movie and is a piece of art in itself. It is part of the nostalgia of the old classics we love, one of the reasons that makes me wanna buy and own it.

The same is true for Synapse's Prom Night cover. Shame on you disrespectful Photoshop art rapists ;)

I was still on the fence because of the added documentary on the UK Blu, but now I am definitely going for the the 88films Blu.

The feature length scream queens feature on the 88films gives them my business.
