I know a lot of horror fans and movie critics alike have compared Rob Zombie's House Of 1,000 Corpses to Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I personally feel there are a lot of similarities and feels between the two, but that it's not necessarily a cheap rip off.

Well, I read an article in Rue Morgue where they briefly (and yes, briefly) mention that Devil's Rejects shares some things with Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. After watching TCM 2 today, I realized I found some coincidences as well...

-Both have a "crazy" police officer going after the family that murdered one of their family members.
-Both have a man's face getting cut off and put on a woman's face
-Both involve destruction of the evil house (Burning the house in Rejects; cutting down all the posts/poles in TCM 2)
-Both have Bill Moseley as a killer

I'm sure there are more similarities but I can't think of them instantly. Has any one noticed that House/Rejects seems to be awfully similar to TCM/TCM 2?

  2. it's not like Zombie denied the Chainsaw influence....

I'm also just hearing that High Tension and Dean Koontz's Intensity may have a few things in common. In addition, Clive Barker may be gay.

Ouch. News flash...Some posters have an attitude?

I know it's not a brand new topic and it in no way diminishes how much I enjoy all four films. I just thought it was weird how House Of 1,000 Corpses was so similar to TCM, and then Devil's Rejects seems to close to TCM 2.

It's less a rip off more than paying tribute. But everyone sees these things differently. Like for example:

Q: What are the things irunning around in 28 Days Later klling the humans?

    - A: infected humans
    - B: zombies

A: they are infected humans (A)

Fascinating. I am going to submit this to the next Trivial Pursuit Genus edition.

I'm not meaning to give you a hard time - it's just that this issue has been debated over and over again since House of 1000 Corpses came out and my soul dies seeing it again so the urge to be sarcastic just took over. I didn't mean to personally insult you.

I want full credit of course. Anything less and I'll be forced to act like a stuck up snobby bastid. ;)

What about all the references and homages that Tarintino puts in his films, yet he is the genius and Zombie and the rip-off artist! Kill Bill alone had tons of references to old kung fu movies.

I just want to point out that I didn't start this thread BECAUSE I think either one of Zombie's films are rip offs of either one of the Texas Chainsaw Massacres. I have known for a long, long time that House/TCM have been compared side by side and I'm one of the people who defended the Zombie argument that it was more of an "homage" than a "rip off."

After watching TCM 2 for the first time in a long time, and having watched Devil's Rejects fairly recently, I happened to notice some big similarities and when I was reading that article in Rue Morgue, it just made sense to post something and see if any one else had noticed.

And onebyone, apology accepted. I bruise easy.
