Blu-ray only. All the film released via the MOD DVD-R MGM program who are part of the deal will be release that way (it's a contractual obligation requested by MGM).

Hopefully it carries over the region B bonus material produced by Red Shirt Pictures.

MGM HD has been running this, so I saw it for the first time. It has moments, but I didn't think too much of it, and I'm a big fan of these types of films.

This. I saw it off of MGM HD, enjoyed it enough, but erased it off my DVR upon completion. Don't feel the need to own it, though I might watch it again if I were surfing channels.

I hope they release other MGM titles that were previously DVD-R, like Modern Girls, Spellbinder, and New Year's Evil.

A cornerstone of '70s revenge cinema, John Flynn's ROLLING THUNDER (1977) finally hits domestic blu courtesy of Shout Factory. William Devane is Major Charles Rane, a seven-year POW just making his way back home from 'Nam. Declared a town hero, he's also marked a target for robbery, losing his family to bandits and his hand to the garbage disposal. Outfitted with a prosthetic hook (which he promptly sharpens), Rane sets out with vengeance on his mind.

Scripted by TAXI DRIVER's Paul Schrader and Heywood Gould, ROLLING THUNDER is a measured, calculated character study turned violent vendetta, with the first half monitoring the Major's attempts to reacclimate, and the second filling him with new purpose. Supported by turns from Linda Haynes (a bubbly waitress) and Tommy Lee Jones (a fellow prisoner) as the pair who accompany Rane into the inevitable, this is a film not to miss. "I'll just get my gear."

I really like this movie as it it more than a straightforward revenge movie. It checks all the boxes as far as that is concerned (nasty violence including a fantastically filmed final bloody shootout) but the script adds a lot more depth (probably Schrader's influence). It takes time to make us sympathize with Devane's experiences and I love how Tommy Lee Jones's character tries to re-enter society but ultimately chooses not to. Jones shows what a fantastic actor he is because he takes a small part and makes it completely believable and memorable.

Great movie. But I can't watch it without Tommy Lee Jones single eyebrow being a distraction. Kind of like watching Danielle Harris in Hatchet 2.

Still, time to upgrade the old bootleg dvd-r and grab the blu :)

The commentary on the uk blu it says they shot a shot of his hand getting munched in the sink but cut it out after a preview screening. Be great if that still existed somewhere in the vaults.
