Went on a Disney binge this weekend lol. Was in a used bookstore and they had a ton of Disney blu-rays. I guess someone just recently purged their Disney collection. So for like $85 I grabbed:

Beauty and the Beast - Diamond Edition
    Sleeping Beauty - Platinum Edition
    Snow White - Diamond Edition
    Aladdin - Diamond Edition
The Little Mermaid - Diamond Edition
    Pinocchio - Signature Collection

    Also grabbed

    Cabin in the Woods
    Donnie Darko - Arrow CE
The Lady From Shanghai - Indicator/Powerhouse

Having already purchased the TCM and Mill Creek blu-ray's of this, I am hesitant to buy yet another copy. I know it's vastly superior and cheap, but I can't pull the trigger again despite being a Welles completist.

Lol no love for Cabin in the Woods? I liked it quite a bit when it came out and the blu-ray was $6.

I also haven't seen it since the theater.

Cabin in the Woods is badass. Love that flick. Had a blast catching that in the theaters and have watched the dvd a handful of times. I probably won't upgrade to blu any time soon but $6 is a steal!

Well... okay: if it was $6.00.

What's to love? It's nothing to look at. There's nothing to think about. It has a smug, self-righteous, superior attitude, and it has no target for all of its bile. Which, inexplicably, it has dripping from its mouth in an amount usually reserved for a starving dog hypnotized by an uncooked steak.

AND it pretends Cabin Fever and Tucker & Dale vs. Evil didn't already exist, let alone tried the near exact same thing and were both more successful. Only, instead of making the upper class jags the victims of revolving door cokeheads in a control room- they were both the villains as well as victims of their own stupidity, privilege, and self-righteousness.

I could turn around and walk away like the film doesn't exist (the way I did with Dead Snow) (the sequel is MUCH better) but... to pretend you're so great that Cabin Fever never happened? That's just asking for it. We still wound up with Evil Dead 2013 anyway, as proof that Cabin in the Woods didn't accomplish anything.

I really, really wanted to love this, but it just didn't connect to me. Didn't hate it, at all, but didn't really hit me the way I thought it might.

I found Cabin in the Woods to be extremely entertaining. Especially as far as bigger budget theatrical studio horror is concerned. I thought it was funny, had a great pace, better than average acting....... and I really loved the ending. It's not one of my all time favorites by any stretch of the imagination, but I dig.

"smug, self-righteous, superior attitude" hahahaha that reminded me of the family guy episode where Peter discusses his opinions on the Godfather. "It insists upon itself" hahahahahaha

[IMG][IMG] (NOT the VHS- I can't find a pic on Amazon of the 1999 DVD. Which I'm buying for only a few bucks so I can move the cardboard box 2-disc version on my main shelf and save some space.) (Although, I believe I have found a pic of it here.)
