They are really taking their time to announce the extras for this. I know it's coming this week, but seeing how close to the release date this is getting, I'm expecting great stuff. Fingers crossed they won't disappoint.
I have the 3-disc limited pre-ordered for $55, but I might cancel it and go for the regular edition instead, especially considering the price difference. The bonus disc doesn't sound like much, it looks like the best extras made it onto the main disc.
The only deal-breaker is the theatrical cut... can't really decide if that's worth the extra $35.
I kind of wish I could, but I ordered it from Diabolik so I guess I'm getting the limited
This actually looks like a bona fide special edition, not just a cut and paste rush job like most Shout Factory releases usually are. Reminds me of those early DVD special editions, back when they were meaty.
If I had the theatrical on DVD already I would probably go with the DC only, but I would really like to have both--and some extra extras help soften the blow. I'm really looking forward to it!!!
I'm also really glad that the people who complained about the price of the 3-disc will still get an amazing release with the DC. I mean, it's PACKED!!!!
Yep! Sounds good. And if they REALLY gave the audio a full on re-mix, that's a dream cone true. Not so stoked about the "extras" disc either. But I'll keep my LE order because of the Theatrical cut.
BTW, SF have also said that the Limited Edition set comes in TWO amaray cases and an outer slip. So both the Directors Cut AND Theatrical Cut have their own cases!!!
I feel the same. There's nothing on the 3rd disc I'm particularly interested in outside of the deleted scenes. If this were a huge favorite of mine, I might be tempted. But as it stands, I feel absolutely fine passing on the 3-disc. I was really worried that all the meaty extras would be hidden away on the third disc, which is why I also had it pre-ordered ($59 on amazon.ca). Now I can cancel it. This is great news.
That fact that the new version with 40 minutes of new and altered material is only 20 minutes longer indicates that about 20 minutes of footage from the theatrical version are missing . Since they are only on the bonus disc and in the theatrical version I'll stick with the Special Edition.
I am not stocked about the 2 single Amarays in an outer slip cover. The one they used for Amityville was very flimsy and thus arrived creased.
The slip cover, I couldn't care less about. But I like the idea of individual boxes
didn't they refer to the slipcover as "sturdy" in their facebook posts?
Yeah! "Ridgid"...... :v\
Now that I see the Special Edition is loaded with special features I'm not as thrilled about my $70 pre-order at DiabolikDVD. They damn well better make the Limited Edition packaging "sturdy" and "ridgid".
Really? I think Shout goes above and beyond with their special editions. Sure their transfers can be spotty at times but the ONE thing you can credit Shout Factory for is their abundance special features. Almost all of their releases remind me of the early days of DVD. Look how stacked a lot of their releases are: Sleepaway Camp, Halloween II and III, the upcoming Halloween box set, The Fog, Phantom of the Paradise, From Beyond, The Burning, The Howling, not to mention releases of extremely obscure films like X-Ray, The Final Terror, Without Warning.
I feel like people shit on them too much. Sure they have faults but they actually make an effort to give fans what they want.
Can't wait to see the DC.
Scream Factory: This is on the flipside of the Special Edition. And will be on the flipside of the theatrical cut on the Limited Edition.
I really want the limited edition but cannot justify spending so much money on it. I'll probably be kicking myself over this later...
