Yes, me too. Bring on that box set baby!!!
yeah I would rather get the boxset of all the films. i may get the dvd for ravager though since I have em all on dvd as well as part 2 on blu from scream factory
trailer or Phantasm Ravager https://www.amazon.com/Phantasm-Rav...d=1474372611&sr=8-4&keywords=phantasm ravager
just got a notification the preorder is up http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Phantasm-Blu-ray/78092/
Hmmm...the CGI still has that "Asylum/SyFy" look.
I hope the movie itself is so damn awesome, that it doesn't matter.
Though, I am a little bit worried.
I would love to be proven wrong, but I have a feeling that Ravager is going to be really, REALLY lousy. Coscarelli made the original on the cheap, but he stretched the budget and made a stylish-looking flick. This looks like a micro-budget modern indie film, which will really limit the effectiveness of a fairly ambitious story with substantial setpieces (the trailers show a whole lot of action). Throw in the fact that Coscarelli isn't directing and I fear it won't look OR FEEL like a Phantasm movie.
Has anything definitive been said about the upcoming boxset and Phantasm II? I definitely plan to grab that. I'm just trying to figure out whether or not I finally need to spring for the Shout! version of II.
Diabolik just posted preorders for the original is coming but no box tis next year. Odd, since I will not double dip. Unless this version has exclusive bells and whistles, I will wait for the set.
Ravager could very well suck. But you know what? If I gets the first four, all of which I like to varying degrees, out on bluray then I'm okay with it.
Tough to argue with that.
As long as it has heart I can forgive almost any "fault" a Phantasm sequel has. Knowing that it was made out of love rather than money goes a long way with me. The CGI might suck but then so did the fly from the first film but it was still fun.
Anyone going to see Phantasm tonight? I'm on the fence. Theater in the town next to mine is listed but when I called, they said that they aren't showing it. The closest one is about 45 minutes away, which I'm okay with except I had shoulder surgery this past week and driving isn't exactly fun right now.
I'd go and see it in a heartbeat if it was playing anywhere near here, but the nearest place on the list is like a 5-6 hour drive... so screw that.
I'll be watching Phantasm: Remastered tonight at the SIFF Uptown in Seattle. I'm also seeing that theaters are announcing when they'll be showing Ravager in October. Here in Seattle the Grand Illusion Cinema will be showing a double feature of Ravager and the original remastered from October 7th-13th.
Don was live on Facebook today and I got news to report!!!:
- Don and Shout! have been talking about remastering Phantasm II
- "Smart idea." said Don about including the original theatrical version of Phantasm on DVD/Blu-ray
Gonna try to make it (and yes, I know I said in the other thread that I don't get excited about digital presentations of older movies, but c'mon man, it's fucking Phantasm!). It's playing in a 49-seat microtheater though
I'm out. Too far to drive with a bum shoulder. Maybe I'll get the Amazon HD release on Oct 4th, or try to make it to Dec for the blu. Plus spending 40 to get me and the kids in, plus parking and snacks, plus $20 or so in gas. Just can't convince myself.
That's kind of what I told a friend of mine that was pursuing the local theatre to get Phantasm. It's my favorite movie but even so it is awfully hard to convince myself to drive 20 minutes to see a film I can reach out and touch on a shelf. The closest it is coming to Keene is Amherst MA about 70 minutes south. Now, if that same theater books Ravager... Hells yeah.
More news!! DVD News Flash reports the remastered edition of Phantasm is airing on October 6th at 11pm on Syfy followed by III and IV after that (II is still being shown on Cinemax in case you're wondering)!
Yeah... Pass on watching anything on Siffy, but thanks.
Yeah, if it was The Movie Channel or Showtime, I'd be more interested
