    A true pioneer whose influence was incalculable. The best thing I can say about his work is that for a long time, I just thought Max von Sydow was an old man based on role in The Exorcist, not even realizing he was made up. The flashy stuff is what people remember, but the true test of skill is what they don't even notice. RIP.

    As a kid I also thought Von Sydow was an old man until it was pointed out to me that it was makeup. A true master of his craft.

    Yeah, hard to believe Max was only 43 when he played Father Merrin.

    Without his pioneering technique's and his happiness for sharing them, the make up world could have been a different place. RIP.

    I idolized his work, what a great talent. He did old age makeup better than anyone and his genre work was magnificent. Generous too, we've lost one of the Titans in the field. Rest In Peace.

    A legend, and for good reason. It's a shame that much of his work for Ghost Story wasn't used, though that film also disappointed as an adaptation of what was an exceptionally creepy novel.
