Same, I can't wait!
A quick street date note about our upcoming CURTAINS releases.
The second one that was rejected looks the best to me. The first and third look identical.
The second one looses some detail.
The second one is a little smeary compared to the first and third. Focusing on something like the grey wall is a way to measure the pure grain structure on film but saying "look at the grey wall" may mislead people who expect plain old grey walls. I like to use in-focus hair in closeups like this to see how much detail is there, but the focus is set too tightly on the actress's face to do that here. This isn't an ideal example I would use.
That the first and third look nearly identical is what Don's pointing out, the final encode chosen looks as close to the original master as possible. That's the goal of a good transfer; be true to the source material.
I honestly don't see differences between the 3. I do appreciate that they want to get this done right so don't really mind the delay.
If you open up all 3 images and flick through them one after the other you can tell the second image has some compression. It's slight but it's good to see Synapse is being anal about this release. We've come to expect that from them now.
need to know 1 thing
on their website, it says that the Blu of Curtains is region A, so is this locked or region free?
oh well, pity, waiting until someone else might release this (Arrow, Second Sight?)
OMG it's playing at the royal? I'm soo going to this!
it kills me that these things are always mid-way through the week. this, and other screenings like it are always so tempting, but there's no way i can get to it during the week.
Saw it at The Royal last night. Wow the restoration is GORGEOUS. Simply stunning. Just wish that moron sitting in the back of the theater wasn't laughing at every single thing in the movie. I saw it with my roommate and he even thought there were a lot of parts that were creepy and unnerving. He jumped at more than a few of the scares. I did too haha.
I had honestly never seen this film the whole way through. Quality was always too poor. I really enjoyed it though. But LOL @ John Vernon's character. What a colossal douche.
Guys, do you know if the Curtains Blu-ray will feature subtitles in english a/o spanish?
A theatrical showing must have been great especially with the restoration. Thanks for the review at the Royal. I got to see this about 3 times (at the second run discount theater) in 1983 - I always suspected the VHS was a step down in visual quality but it was all we had until now. Can't wait!
Mondo Digital reviews CURTAINS!
I cannot wait till mine ships from Diabolik. Hopefully I'll have it by release day. Been waiting forever to watch this again.

Great review for CURTAINS, as expected. It's always a plus when they get people who are truly passionate about a film to participate in the extras and not just anyone. This will probably qualify as release of the year in the slasher/horror category (excluding box sets).
