My only issue with ED2 is the supporting cast. They are all unbelievably annoying. The scene with everything in the cabin laughing at Ash when he falls through the chair, Henrietta ("Someone's in my fruit cellar") and "Who's laughing now?" are pure cinematic gold.

Man, that guy really knows the history of those movies, but the review gets too bogged down in all the different titles, connections of the actors, and what was on previous versions. Doesn't spend a lot of time telling you about the movie itself.

Honestly, I can't even remember the supporting cast which goes a long way to proving your point.
ED2 was always the Bruce Campbell show to me, which I understand has its appeal.

The redneck and his girlfriend, who was Meryl Streep compared to the main actress (Henrietta's daughter). Oh and the main actress' boyfriend, but he didn't last long enough to really be annoying.

I'm satisfied with that statement re Dog Soldiers - they did the best they could with what they had. The release will still be picked apart, trashed and dismissed as garbage by all the armchair critics of the internet so there's no point in saying anything further.

I'll just keep the old DVD of Dog Soldiers, as the contrast and colors are far better on that release, and also less crushed blacks.

What a shame they can't find the original negative.

Looks like my original cheap Blu release of Dog Soldiers will do just fine for now.

Especially given the film really isn't all that old.

It's heartening BTW, to know that I'm not the only person who hated EDII. :D

EDII is gold, baby. I missed those comments up above. Yes, it is just a remake of the original with a comedic spin, but that's what is so great about it Annoying actors are part of most B movies. EDII was one of the first laserdiscs I bought. It completely made me fall in love with the format. Everything about it - blood red disc, awesome commentary, and a great presentation back in the day.

If you thought EDII was gold I would strongly recommend seeing Evil Dead-The Musical if ever they perform it near you.
    Great tribute, hysterically entertaining.

Whilst I don't hate ED2 I can't say I like it more than the original. The slapstick doesn't do much for me.

I finally watched Scream Factory's controversial Blu-ray of Dog Soldiers. I loved the new transfer. For years filmmakers have been going for that "grindhouse" look and not pulling it off with their digital scratches and such. Turns out all you have to do is shoot a movie on 16mm, lose the original negative, and then find a slightly scratched cinema print and you can make a movie from 2002 look like the original Evil Dead. I thought it complimented the style of the film very well, which is what I'm sure Neil Marshall was thinking when he supervised the transfer. This disc, especially with its bevy of new extras, is not the abomination people have been making it out to be and is still worth a poke for fans of this very fun werewolf film.

Thanks. I'm buying this regardless of the "controversy" but all that nitpicking really takes a toll after a while. What about the contrast-boosting issues and blown whites, is it really that awful? Again, not that it matters since I'm still buying this.
