I own both, and having now watched both transfers I can honestly say that the difference is dramatic. The 88 Films Blu-ray still looks "good" and you can enjoy the movie with it, but the difference in quality is definitely a noticeable leap between the two releases.

You do get the 2 Interviews exclusive to the 88 Films release and also the Collector's Booklet if you have the first pressing... so the 88 version still has that going for it.

    Watched Prey last night.

I bought it 'cuz I really enjoyed Terror and wanted to see more from Norman J. Warren. Didn't really read much beyond the description in the VS catalog, but one thing I did see that influenced my purchase was the appearance of Glory Annen. Her '79 Aussie softcore move Felicity was a welcome viewing after many a bad high school date, as I've mentioned in the Severin thread. So those were the factors in my decision to buy it, and it delivered on both counts.
It has a good premise, although admittedly it's a bit slow and talky for the first half. Luckily it's not too long, so the talking is soon interrupted for a boffo sex scene with Ms. Annen (hey, when you're good at something, a director should make full use of it, right? If I watch a movie with Bruce Lee, there'd damn well better be some martial arts in it, if ya get what I'm saying). Most of the violence is saved for the last reel (just like Terror), and there's enough there to warrant future viewings. I want to listen to the commentary too. Another winner from Vinegar Syndrome.

Also fascinating that it is based - loosely - on D.H. Lawrence’s ‘The Fox’... I read it and it’s weirdly similar...

"The sale will also mark the unveiling of our two hotly discussed and sure to please secret surprise titles, consisting of a never officially on disc early 70's proto-slasher, presented uncut and from a new 4K scan of its camera negative, along with an exploitation masterpiece that many of you have been craving. We are more than happy to oblige. That's all in addition to two new VSA releases, one an over-the-top DTV action filled skull crusher from the early 90s, the other a mysterious, late 70s sorta-horror shocker."

    OH YES.

I'm gonna score the Angel and Amityville sets during the sale, do I need the Amityville set? Prob not but that set looks great and I'm a sucker for the Amityville movies. I haven't seen the Angel movies in prob 30 years.

I mean, I personally get more enjoyment out of the Amityville films in this set that I do with the ones that came before it. It's a good set too. All the films look great. I actually watched The Evil Escapes again the other night and followed that with House 3. To my surprise they both had the same young kid in them!

Yeah but wasn’t that supposed to be a rough version - and that a full restored stand-alone was coming?

It is but it looks good, if you want Last House on Dead End Street in HD then just buy it. I wish more labels would do stuff like this with long delayed titles.

Not that we didn't already know, but Laura Albert (Blood Games, Mirage, The Unnamable) commented this on the YouTube trailer for Blood Games:

I remember always wanting to see Dolly Dearest for the longest time. When I finally found a copy I was pretty disappointed with the film. It felt very slow and I don't think I even finished it. I was hoping for a more engaging killer doll film.

I also forgot to note before that the VS release of Olivia is a longer uncensored cut, by around a minute:

So yeah, the 88 Films release still has the exclusive extras going for it...but that's about all.

I remember the movie being a bit of a bore, but Pale Blood has one of the most gorgeous slipcovers I've ever seen. Pictures don't do it justice.

Planning to start digging into the Forgotten Gialli set tonight.
